Shortlist it for heated beaker preparation
The IKA C-MAG HS 7 is worth considering when your preparation task requires stirring a liquid and heating it on the same ceramic plate. IKA documents that mixing-and-heating role and separate speed and heating controls. [1] [3] It is not a microscope stage warmer, and it does not improve the optical image. Buy for the liquid-preparation workflow, not for an assumption that a warm plate makes an experiment more reproducible.
This is a source-backed buying review, not a hands-on test. The selected Amazon offer is C-MAG HS 7, ordering number 3581201; the settled US maker page displays Ident. No. 0003581201. [1] [4] This is the standard HS 7, not a substituted “digital” or “control” package.

Read the display as a plate setting
The maker’s technical record describes speed adjustment on a 0–6 scale, a 100–1500 rpm range, a turning-knob heat control, and an LED display of the temperature set-value. [2] The scale and published range are not measurements of stirring performance in your vessel. Liquid viscosity, vessel and stirring-bar suitability remain application checks.
The manual says the displayed value is the target temperature of the heating plate—even when a contact thermometer is connected. It documents a connection for a contact thermometer, and the maker names ETS-D5 as an external sensor connection. [2] [3] Do not read that LED as a demonstrated liquid temperature or assume an external sensor is supplied. If sample-temperature control is essential, verify the complete compatible accessory configuration rather than buying the core plate and expecting it to do that alone.
The capacity disagreement is real
The selected retailer’s bullet says up to 5 L of water. The current maker description and HS 7 manual table say 10 L of water. [1] [3] [4] We have not established why those values differ or which revision the seller ships. If capacity determines your purchase, obtain exact-unit clarification; do not plan to exceed the lower advertised figure on the basis of a family page.
The maker lists a ceramic 180 × 180 mm plate, 50–500°C heating range and a fixed 550°C safety circuit. [2] Those are separate plate and protective-system specifications, not a promise that your sample reaches a particular temperature or that any liquid is safe to heat.
Power and accessories need exact-package confirmation
The offer is headed 115V; the US maker technical record gives 120V, 50/60Hz. The manual includes a 120V nominal option with a ±10% operating-voltage specification and instructs matching the type plate to the mains supply. [2] [3] [4] Preserve those labels rather than treating “115V” as proof of an incompatible product or claiming universal-input operation. Confirm the shipped rating and lead before use.
The manual’s core delivery list is the appropriate device, mains cable and instructions. The current maker page additionally lists IKAFLON 20, 30 and 40 magnetic stirring bars. [1] [3] The retailer does not itemize the full carton. Confirm those bars and the supplied cable; do not count a support rod, clamp, vessel, external thermometer or controller as included merely because the system supports accessories.
Safety indications are not unattended-use permission
The manual describes a hot-surface indication after heating is switched off while the surface remains above 50°C in stirring or standby modes. It also warns about residual heat and says the device automatically restarts after a power interruption. [3] These are reasons to plan supervised handling and shutdown, not claims that a warning eliminates burns or that a power cut leaves the setup safely stopped.
IKA calls for trained staff, a grounded outlet and a stable, dry, fireproof working surface, and prohibits use in explosive atmospheres. Its instructions address flammable media, vessel breakage and splashing hazards. [3] Material suitability and protective controls must come from your laboratory’s procedure and the complete manual. We do not recommend a chemical-heating recipe here.
The buying decision
Shortlist the standard C-MAG HS 7 when the job is supervised stirring plus plate heating and you can verify vessel, bar, power and package suitability. Skip the core unit if your requirement is a supplied liquid-temperature sensor, automated sample control or a guarantee of mixing and thermal performance. If the 5 L versus 10 L disagreement affects your task, resolve it before ordering. The value is having the documented preparation controls in one instrument, not replacing application validation.
