Fluke FI2-7300 Review: Whole-MPO Inspection With Versiv

Shortlist the Fluke FI2-7300 when you inspect MPO connectors in the field and want the entire connector overview, individual-fiber detail and an included Versiv display in one inspection kit. The package combines the FI-3000 camera with a Versiv 2 mainframe.[1][3] Skip this bundle when you already have a suitable host, mainly inspect individual connectors, or actually need optical-loss or OTDR measurements. The purchase-changing question is whether whole-MPO viewing and the supplied field display justify buying this kit rather than another probe.

What changes with whole-MPO viewing

Fluke documents dual cameras producing one integrated view of the entire MPO endface. The touchscreen interface lets you pan, zoom into an area or select a particular fiber.[3] That gives the operator an overview-to-detail route instead of making a magnification number the buying criterion. Digital zoom is navigation within that image, not a claim of improved optical resolution.

The probe has autofocus controls, PortBright illumination for finding ports, a test button and status LEDs; the USB connection links it to Versiv.[2] PortBright helps locate the connector, while the documented endface illumination is a separate coaxial blue LED.[3] These are useful interface distinctions, not guarantees of inspection speed, defect detection or error-free work. If you already own a compatible Versiv host, compare the FI-3000 camera kit before paying for another mainframe.[3]

Match tips, not just connector counts

The standard kit supplies MPO tips for 12/24 UPC and 12/24 APC endfaces. Fluke lists 16/32 UPC and MMC configurations as accessory-dependent.[2] A headline saying the camera supports several row layouts does not mean every required tip ships with this offer. Match the actual connector geometry, UPC/APC finish and patch-cord or bulkhead access to the selected tip.

The maker’s FI2-7300 packing record also names a single-fiber adapter for FI-1000 tips.[3] An adapter is not a set of LC, SC, FC or universal individual-connector tips: those tips are separate accessory choices.[2] For mixed MPO and single-fiber jobs, price the missing interfaces before deciding the base kit is complete for your work.

What the kit includes—and does not

The exact listing names the FI-3000 probe, Versiv mainframe, probe-to-host USB cable, two MPO tip types, blank module, charger, strap, USB interface cable, Wi-Fi and soft case.[5] The blank module protects the mainframe’s rear connector; it is not a measurement module.[1] Fluke’s brief key-feature wording says “main/remote,” but its detailed model list and this offer list a mainframe, not a remote unit.[1][5] Do not add a remote, cable-certification modules or every accessory visible in a supplier photo to the expected box.

Grading and reports need their own checks

Fluke describes automated pass/fail as optional, with results evaluated against selected endface criteria.[2][3] Confirm the unit’s enabled functionality and applicable limits if automated grading is essential. Do not treat the model name as proof of an activated entitlement or promise a test time for your job. The documented whole-connector Live View remains the core reason to consider this package.

Versiv and LinkWare can store inspection images and combine inspection records with other test results.[3] Combining records does not make this camera bundle a loss meter or OTDR. Separate measurement equipment is needed when those results are required; a clean-looking endface or inspection grade is not evidence of network performance.

Power, manuals and support

The package includes a charger, and the probe’s USB port serves charging and the Versiv connection.[2][5] Follow the supplied equipment’s labels and applicable manuals rather than selecting an arbitrary replacement from a general specification table. The shop-hosted FI-3000 manual is March 2019, Rev. 1 7/2019; the family page separately lists Rev. 2.[2][4] Check the instructions for the shipped revision. The retrieved manual warns against looking directly into optical connectors because invisible radiation can damage eyes.[4] Do not infer active-fiber protection from a screen-based camera. Verify warranty and support eligibility for the order if factory support is important to the project.

Verdict

Buy around the MPO overview-to-selected-fiber workflow and included field host, not the promise of universal tips or automatic certification. FI2-7300 is a sensible shortlist when those two documented capabilities address your work. Choose a camera-only route when you already have the compatible host; choose a simpler individual-connector arrangement when MPO coverage is unnecessary. Budget for the actual tips and confirm optional grading before relying on either.
