Bel-Art Roxy M Review: Repeated Aliquots From One Fill

Conditional verdict: Consider the Bel-Art Roxy M F37310-0000 when repeated doses of the same selected volume are the missing bench function. Its documented positive-displacement mechanism combines a compatible tip with one of five wheel settings for repeated dispensing from one fill.[1][3] That is a different purchase from an adjustable single-channel pipettor such as SuperPette—not a continuously adjustable 1–5000 µL dial or a claim of better measured precision.[6]

What the Roxy M is designed to do

The current manufacturer record identifies this product as Roxy M Repeating Pipettor, catalog F37310-0000.[1] The mechanism is manual and uses positive displacement; the maker presents that construction as suitable for a broad liquid range, including viscous or high-vapor-pressure liquids.[1] That is a manufacturer capability statement, not a result from a physical comparison, and it should not be read as proof of identical behavior with every liquid.

The useful mental model is a loaded dispensing tip with a selected repeat volume. The instructions describe a filling slide, a stopping lever, a dispensing button and an adjustment wheel with positions 1 through 5.[3] The stated dose counts are 48, 23, 15, 11 and 8 for those five settings, respectively.[3] Thus, “up to 48 doses” is setting-dependent; it does not mean 48 doses at every volume.

Volume selection is discrete, not continuous

Bel-Art’s current page advertises 1–5000 µL across six tip sizes.[1] The instructions show a grid formed by tip capacity and five wheel positions.[3] For example, the documented 5.0 mL tip row spans 100–500 µL in five selected doses, not every intermediate volume.[3] Buy around a supported combination rather than treating a family headline as continuous adjustment.

Do not assume that the lowest 0.05 mL tip is currently available merely because it appears in historical technical data. The current tip page lists a narrower set of orderable variants, while the two-page flyer presents a different count and a prose list that omits 25 mL even though its technical table includes that row.[4][5] Treat the exact tip needed for your aliquot as a separate availability and compatibility question. Tips are specialized repeating-pipettor consumables, not generic ordinary pipette tips that can be substituted without checking.

Tips, adapters and liquid limits deserve attention

The Roxy M tips use a polyethylene internal plunger intended to keep liquid from contacting the pipettor.[4] That construction may matter when reducing contact with the instrument, but it is not a zero-contamination guarantee for a complete workflow or environment. The tip page also identifies sterile and non-sterile options and says 50 mL tips require an adapter.[4] Neither statement establishes what will be in a particular shipment.

The adapter package has a purchase-changing discrepancy. The instructions say the 50 mL adapter is enclosed and the 25 mL adapter is sold separately.[3] The ordinary retail description instead says an adapter for 25 and 50 mL tips is included.[2] That does not establish which adapter will arrive in this seller’s carton. Confirm the required part if your work depends on it, and do not budget this individual instrument as a guaranteed complete tip-and-adapter kit.

The published accuracy and precision table is conditioned on double-distilled water held at 20–25 °C with ±0.5 °C constant temperature, and some small-tip data use accessory pipetting tips.[3][5] That is a test condition, not a general performance result for any liquid. The manual also says tip tightness is not guaranteed after several pipettings with viscous solutions.[3] That caveat matters even though the marketing language emphasizes wide liquid suitability.

A different purchase from an adjustable SuperPette

The comparison is about the dispensing workflow, not a claim that one instrument universally replaces the other. SCILOGEX’s current SuperPette page documents selectable volume ranges, a volume lock, central readout and forward or reverse pipetting.[6] Roxy M instead combines a tip capacity with one of five wheel settings for repeated doses from one fill.[3] A buyer distributing the same aliquot among many vessels may find that repeat-oriented layout worth considering; a buyer changing individual volumes within a defined range may prefer the SuperPette workflow.

The Roxy M is also not an electronic dispenser: the current maker page describes manual operation with no batteries.[1] Its published lightweight and ambidextrous design claims may help explain the intended handling, but they are not evidence of reduced hand strain in a particular workload. Likewise, factory-calibrated, maintenance-free and Certificate of Conformity language are publisher claims, not an inspected shipment result or proof of achieved precision for the unit under consideration.[1][3]

Who should consider it

Choose this documented use model when repeated, same-volume aliquots are central to the task and the required tip-and-wheel combination can be sourced. The one-fill approach and setting-dependent dose count are the reasons to consider it, not the headline range alone. Before relying on a narrow accuracy requirement, match the liquid, tip conditions and applicable verification process to the work rather than transferring the water-table figures to an arbitrary sample.[3][5]

Look elsewhere when continuous volume adjustment or ordinary universal-tip interchangeability is the requirement. If the purchase depends on a complete supplied adapter-and-consumables set, settle the package discrepancy first. This documentation-based review does not establish clinical, patient-care, sterility or compliance suitability, and supplies no physical comparison, calibration demonstration or operating result.

The buying decision

The Bel-Art Roxy M F37310-0000 is a conditional choice for repeated manual aliquots: the tip and wheel setting determine the dose, and the maximum 48-dose count applies only at the relevant setting.[3] Choose it for that one-fill repeat workflow, not as a continuously adjustable replacement for SuperPette.[6] Confirm the required consumables and adapter package before relying on the advertised range.
