Dino-Lite WF-20 Review: Make a Compatible AF Microscope Wireless

If you already own a compatible Dino-Lite AF-series microscope and want to view its image without a USB cable running to a computer, the WF-20 is the relevant accessory to investigate. It is a wireless streaming module that attaches to the microscope you already have. It is not a replacement microscope, camera, lens system, or optical upgrade. Dino-Lite identifies the WF-20 as P/N WF-20 and documents compatibility with AF models only.[1][2]

My buying advice: start with the exact model number printed on your microscope. The manufacturer’s compatibility table marks all AF series as compatible and any AM series as incompatible.[2] That rules out the AM4113ZT as a documented match. Check your exact model against the current compatibility table before ordering.

What this accessory changes

The WF-20 supplies the wireless bridge while your AF microscope remains the device producing the image. The adapter can create its own Wi-Fi signal and can also be configured as a wireless router.[1] In practical terms, the purchase changes where you view and share the existing microscope feed. It does not add optics, a new sensor, or a different focusing mechanism; the microscope still supplies the image and lighting.

That makes the WF-20 a narrower decision than buying a complete digital microscope. It may fit an owner who likes an existing AF inspection setup but wants a phone, tablet, or Wi-Fi-connected Windows computer at the viewing position. It is not the right route for an AM-series microscope, and it is not a substitute for choosing an appropriate microscope body in the first place.

App and computer compatibility: check current support

Dino-Lite’s current compatibility page names the DinoConnect 2 app for iOS and Android, while the current downloads page provides direct links to the iOS and Android listings.[2][3] Those links are the useful starting point for checking whether the app is available for the specific device you plan to use. The compatibility page says Android requires Android 6 or later and lists tested Apple devices, but an older minimum requirement or historical device list is not a guarantee that the current app will support every older phone, tablet, or future operating-system release.[2] Check the live app listing and device requirements before purchase.

For Windows, Dino-Lite documents use with DinoCapture 2.0 when the computer has Wi-Fi; the compatibility page states version 1.5.28 or newer.[2] Use the manufacturer’s current DinoCapture 2.0 download and confirm its Windows requirements before buying.[3] The WF-20 documentation does not establish a macOS wireless workflow or identical software features across Windows, iOS, and Android.

One controller, model-specific measurement features

The manufacturer describes live viewing, still capture, video, gallery access, exposure and LED controls, and measurement-related functions. However, measurement support is not a blanket parity claim across every platform or AF model. Dino-Lite specifically ties measurements and automatic magnification reading to compatible measurement/AMR models and describes those functions in connection with iOS and Windows use.[1] Treat measurement as a model-and-platform check: confirm the exact microscope, app, and calibration workflow rather than assuming Android, iOS, and Windows behave identically.

The manual says the WF-20 can connect to up to 10 mobile devices, while recommending fewer than five for image fluency; only the first connected PC or mobile device has exclusive control.[4] Plan for shared viewing with one active operator, not simultaneous control by everyone connected.

Battery, runtime, and documented package

The WF-20 has a built-in 1600 mAh battery. Dino-Lite reports approximately 2.5 hours of continuous operation when tested with an AF4915, and the manual notes that actual battery life varies with the microscope and use.[1][4] Charging takes about three to four hours through a USB charger or power bank. The manual says it can operate while charging but warns that heat may increase, especially with poor ventilation.[4]

The documented package is the WF-20 adapter, rubber lid, and Mini USB charging cable.[1][4] Your compatible microscope, phone or tablet, and separate charger should not be assumed to be included in this accessory purchase.

Bottom line

Consider the WF-20 when you can name a compatible AF-series microscope and the real need is wireless viewing or sharing. Keep the USB setup when direct tethering is simpler. For an AM4113ZT owner, the manufacturer’s AF-only table makes this a compatibility exclusion, not a wireless upgrade path. The useful purchase is the adapter alone—not another complete microscope or a bundle you do not need.[5]
